A day in Cadence

What the desktop app does in the background, the live-green tracking signal, and how little you have to touch it.

A good day in Cadence is one you barely notice. You open the app once, get on with your work, and at the end of the day your hours are already recorded and sorted. There is no timer to start and stop, and nothing to remember.

If you have not set up yet, work through getting started first. Everything below assumes the desktop app is installed and you are signed in.

It runs quietly in the background

Once Cadence is running, it keeps an accurate record of your working day on your own machine. It notices which client and project you are working on as you move between tasks, and builds that into your day for you. There are no screenshots and nothing watching over your shoulder, see what Cadence tracks if you want the detail.

Live green means tracking right now

Cadence uses one reserved colour to tell you it is working: a live green signal. When you see it, Cadence is recording the current moment. It is the only status you need to learn. If the green is there, your time is being captured, and you can carry on without a second thought.

One glance is enough
You do not have to stare at the app. The live-green signal is there so a single glance tells you everything is being recorded. The rest of the time, leave Cadence in the background and focus on the work.

Glancing at your day

When it suits you (before a meeting, at lunch, or as you wrap up) open Cadence to see how the day has shaped up so far. Your time appears as entries grouped by client and project, so you can see at a glance where the hours went without adding anything up yourself.

For the at-a-glance summary pinned to your sidebar, see the Today panel.

How much you actually do

  • Open Cadence once and sign in. After that it starts with your machine.
  • Work normally. Cadence records and sorts your time as you go.
  • Glance at the live-green signal when you want to confirm it is tracking.
  • Tidy your time entries at a natural break, if anything needs a nudge.

Next, see how that activity becomes time entries you can review and bill.
